Some simple thoughts on puppy training

Taking care of your puppy can be a more than difficult task, especially if it’s your first time.

To take care of a puppy the first thing you should have is patience, and lot’s of it. Using patience will only enable the best future for you and your puppy, plus so much more !

You need to always remember that anger and punishment have no place in dog training what so ever. Elimination is a natural and pleasurable experience for your dog, but nothing more than that. You can teach her to not soil your house, but punishment will NOT help at all, especially for dogs. (Especially because they have extremely poor memory) The biggest thing doing so would do would probably just lead to the dog hiding whenever it needs to “eliminate” in a sense. This of course is the last thing you want to do.

Make sure that before you purchase your puppy that you have already spent time researching, considering, and purchasing all of the core essentials for him or her.

Some things you should consider purchasing should consist of, but not limited to: a quality new food bowl, a soft and comfortable bed for your puppy, vitamins, a water bottle if necessary, and some fun, but age appropriate toys for him or her.

During the first few weeks it’s really best if your puppy just gets the opportunity to get used to you, it’s new family, new routine, and it’s new life. One thing though that you may want to start doing immediately is saying it’s name around and at it immediately. Young animals, specifically puppies will really benefit from this in the long and possibly even short run.
Lastly, make sure you don’t expect to get tons of walking out of them. There’s no need or fair reason to overexert your new puppies as if they were a lot stronger or older than they really are.

Another great tip is as far as consequences goes, If your puppy pees a few times in the first weeks, try your best to let it go. Your puppy is new to the world and still very small, and even more so, he or she is very new to the whole potty training routine/rule. If you really care that much about the small amount it pees or if it does do it a lot to the amount of an issue, it’s recommended to take the puppy to the bathroom every 5-10 minutes when they’re done drinking or eating.

If you are sure to follow some, if not all of these great tips and methods you are sure to get some better results and a happier time with your new puppy ! Not to mention more healthy and safe. Get the most out of your puppy- and have endless fun years to come with it !

Pet Insurance – ever think about it?

We added a new page to the blog. If you look across the very top of this page at the main menu you now see Pet Insurance. We are a firm believer in giving your pets the care they need. Pet Insurance is a way for you to afford the care. We all know vet bills can get pretty high, but if you insure your pet (especially when they are pups or kittens) this cost can be controlled.

Visit the pet insurance site and read all about it.

Pet Insurance

Responsible pet ownership means visiting your veterinarian on a regular basis for routine treatments, vaccinations and examinations. However, statistics show that pets will require unexpected treatments from time to time throughout their lifetimes.

Your vet is a highly skilled expert who has the ability to practice the latest medical techniques often required to return your pet to good health. Insuring your pet will assist you in managing the costs associated with high quality veterinary care.

Responsible pet ownership means providing your pet the best care you can.
